Mindless Babble:

A Satirical Look at my Future

By: Melanie Beaudette

I think I would make a brilliant MTV vj because of my pure, wholehearted and genuine affection for music. One day, I'd like to bring the rude/rockabilly style to Music Television. I'd like to host a show that allows requests, definitely not like the teenybopper infested Total Request Live, where only popular and MTV endorsed songs are played, but where different kinds of music - "underground" music - can be played and bands can be interviewed. The likes of late 80's early 90's shows, like Headbanger's Ball and Yo! MTV Raps were priceless; if I recall, there was even a show like the one I'd love to have. Alas, the good days of MTV are long gone. Still, if I could have my show, just once a week, I'd be a happy girl.
MTV has such potential, and I feel like part of its original intention is being lost in mindless shows and contests. The newer vjs, Ray etc, have seemingly little to no music knowledge, and were mostly picked by viewers on the Wanna Be a VJ contests, instead of submitting a resume and being interviewed. Like vj Tek, they just "look good." It's sickening. What happened to real vjs like Downtown Julie Brown? People with passion and a musical background should be on MTV, not just any random kid from the street. People like me. Grrr!
