LHS Math Team Places Fourth in Meet
By: Kristin Jacques
The fourth math meet of the 1999-2000 school year was held at St. Dominic's Regional High School on Wednesday, February 2, 2000. The team spent time during December and January practicing for the five specified categories that were included in the February meet. These rounds, in which team members competed individually to contribute to the team total, were Logs and Log Equations, Functions, Arithmetic with Statistics, Linear Coordinate Geometry, and Trigonometric Mechanics.
The sixth and final round was the team round, in which all members collaborate to get as many answers out of 9 questions from different categories and levels of difficulty. After the team round was complete, the team ended up with 158 points, which was good enough to place us in fourth place out of the 10 teams in our league that competed. Oxford Hills placed first with Leavitt in 2nd and Jay in 3rd place.
Our team's high scorers were seniors Corey Potvin and Johanna Mathieu (31 and 29 points, respectively) and sophomore Aaron Strong with 28 points. Other team members who competed were Andrew Morin, Bobbie Marcoux, Lila Wollman, Kristin Jacques, Rafal Urban and Dominick Ward-Pistone. The LHS Math Team will compete in the final regular meet in March at Oxford Hills and go on to compete in the State Math Meet in April at the Cumberland County Civic Center.
