Cystic Fibrosis Foundation Fund-raiser
By: Amy Parker
More than 10 million Americans have it. That's one of out of every 31 people in this country.
What's 'it,' you're wondering. A defective Cystic Fibrosis gene. For a child to be born with the disease both parents must pass on a defective CF gene. In the 1950s, few children lived to attend elementary school. Today most only live to the age of 31.
So what is Cystic Fibrosis anyway?
CF causes the body to produce mucus that clogs the lungs and can lead to chronic lung infections, fatal lung damage, and interferes with digestion.
You can help fight this disease by raising money for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, which was founded in 1955 to find better treatments and hopefully a cure for this deadly disease. Buy a heart at lunch for only 50 cents, put your name on it, and we'll hang it up in the cafeteria to show that you support the fight against Cystic Fibrosis, the country's number-one genetic killer of children and young adults.
Once the goal of $500 is raised, we'll hold an assembly for you to see Mr. Sykes and Mr. Lachapelle sing in front of the whole school. So buy a heart and support the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
